Weevils
Weevils are beetle pests belonging to the family Curculionidae. Both the larval and adult stages can damage crops, though the type of damage depends on the species. Root-feeding weevil larvae attack the roots of vegetables, ornamentals, and turf, reducing plant vigor and growth. Adult weevils typically feed on foliage, buds, and fruit, creating notches or holes in leaves and sometimes affecting marketable yield.
Common weevils in Canada include root weevils such as Otiorhynchus spp. and fruit or vine weevils like the Strawberry root weevil. They are particularly problematic in nurseries, greenhouses, and crop fields where they can quickly establish and reproduce.
Recognize the signs of infestation

- Notched or chewed leaves: Adult weevils feed mostly at night, creating semicircular or irregular notches on leaves.
