Trichogramma: Tiny beneficial wasps for the natural control of caterpillar pests

Small yet mighty, Trichogramma are microscopic egg-parasitoid wasps that stop caterpillar pests before they hatch—delivering truly preventive protection. Despite their size (under 1 mm), they are among the most effective and widely used biological control agents for moth and butterfly pests in vegetables, field crops, greenhouses, and gardens. 

Female Trichogramma actively search for pest eggs, lay their own egg inside, and the developing larva consumes the embryo—turning the host egg dark and preventing caterpillar emergence.

By targeting freshly laid eggs, Trichogramma reduce pesticide use, prevent early-season outbreaks, and strengthen crop protection. This preventive mode of action makes them a cornerstone of integrated pest management (IPM).
