Clothes Moth (Tineola bisselliella) and Indian Meal Moth (Plodia interpunctella) are common household and storage pests that can cause significant damage to textiles, stored grains, nuts, and processed foods. Clothes moth larvae feed on wool, silk, fur, and other natural fibers, creating holes in fabrics, while Indian meal moth larvae infest grains, cereals, nuts, dried fruits, and pet food, leaving silk webbing and frass in stored products.
Adult moths themselves do not feed on materials but are responsible for laying eggs, which hatch into destructive larvae. Both species can reproduce multiple times per year under favorable conditions, making early detection and management crucial.
Because chemical treatments are often ineffective in practice — they rarely reach hidden larvae and do not affect eggs — these pests are best managed with natural, pesticide-free solutions.
Look for visible signs left by larvae, since they cause most of the damage. Choose natural, pesticide-free methods that reduce risks and protect storage environments.
