Product description

Description

Distributed in their juvenile stage as infectious larvae, Lawn Guardian entomopathogenic nematodes are small, measuring just 0.4 to 1.5 mm in length – they can be observed with a 20X magnifying glass. Once in the soil, they enter the insect pest naturally through openings like the mouth, respiratory orifices, and anus. The nematodes feed on the pest’s tissues, releasing symbiotic bacteria present in their intestines that eliminate the host within 24 to 48 hours. This makes entomopathogenic nematodes an effective aid in controlling insect pests.

Targeted crops

  • Lawn

Targeted pests

  • Rose chafer (Macrodactylus subspinobus)
  • Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica)
  • June beetle (Phyllophaga sp.)

Application Instructions

For optimal results, apply entomopathogenic nematodes in the fall (late August/September) to target larvae and prevent damage in the following spring. Alternatively, a spring application (May/June) can be done once the soil temperature reaches 10°C (50°F), when larvae are more vulnerable. At the time of application, the grass should be 3 to 5 cm tall to ensure the nematodes can easily penetrate into the soil.

Before applying, mix the nematodes with room-temperature water, preferably dechlorinated. Follow the packaging instructions to determine the right amount of water for the area being treated. Stir the mixture thoroughly to distribute the nematodes evenly. Apply the solution early in the morning or late in the afternoon, making sure the sprayer nozzle is wide enough to avoid harming the nematodes. After application, lightly water the treated area to help the nematodes penetrate the soil, which is crucial for their survival and effectiveness. Be sure to keep the soil moist for the two weeks following application.

Results may become visible within 7 to 14 days. For severe infestations, a second application may be needed after a few weeks.
